James Sommerville - KNOWN_UNKNOWN
James began life as an art student and street artist. In 1986, he co-founded a small design company called ATTIK with a friend in Huddersfield, Yorkshire, UK with support of family and The Prince’s Trust (a foundation set up by Prince Charles to help aspiring talent in the UK). ATTIK was very successful and eventually acquired by Dentsu. He joined The Coca-Cola Company in 2013 as global design lead. Rebranding many iconic global beverages including many of the company’s billion-dollar brands, that were activated across 200+ markets. James changed the definition of ‘design’ at The Coca-Cola Company from a packaging department to a Global Design team recognised as a network of creative thinkers who were focused on human beings and who ultimately could drive value and growth at Coca Cola. It wasn’t easy James had to navigate the corporation’s global system but his focus on discovering and developing talent among the next generation of talent was always key to his plan.
In 2019, James came to realise that he’d been building a community of designers, that today I share as a ready-made network. He firmly believes that the next great world currency will be distributed talent, so he launched his new agency - KNOWN◼️UNKNOWN and is already working with some major global brands.
